Biography

When I was sixteen years old I discovered Cartier-Bresson’s statement, ‘Your first 10,000 photographs are your worst’. I picked up my camera and started shooting. A lot.

Starting my passion for photography developing B&W film in a darkroom at school in the UK, I discovered the joys of shooting colour during my final year at the University of Brighton.

Newly inspired by Paul Grahams 'The Great North Road' & Joel Sternfelds ‘American Prospects’, I strived to tell a deeper narrative within each image, rather than the more reportage style of work I had been inspired by earlier on.

Moving from the UK to New Zealand 15 years ago, I continues to keep the narrative at the heart of my work, focusing on a documentary style that transcends between my personal and commercial practices.

I now live in Wellington with my wife and two kids, balancing between the professional and personal, venturing wherever my photography and family may take me.
